Maria has over 28 years experience within the education and teaching profession. Having qualified in 1995 from Trinity College, Carmarthen University of Wales. Maria gained a Bachelors in Education with Honours in Primary Education and then furthered her studies with additional postgraduate specialist assessment and Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND) qualifications. She is continuously updating her expertise & professional development. Currently she’s engaged in continuous professional development in the field of Dyslexia, Literacy and SpLd (Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dysgraphia, Dyspraxia & ADHD). Maria also has a wealth of experience in teaching and working with children and young people with Autism and Aspergers syndrome.
Maria has worked extensively across both the primary and secondary sector as Special Educational Needs Co ordinator (SENCO) for several years . She has managed & trained large staff teams, held the role of Specialist Advisory Teacher and Systems Leader for Additional Learning Needs at Senior Local Authority level. She has mentored many aspiring students and newly qualified teachers in the area of special educational needs including advising on the JCQ updates and requirements. She has a sincere and deep passion for supporting all individuals with additional learning needs including those in public care needing specialist assessment and learners with complex and co occurring difficulties.
More recently Maria was co-founder of a large specialist tuition and assessment centre although now specialises in providing specialist Dyslexia and literacy tuition, along with detailed specialist cognitive and diagnostic assessments for a variety of purposes. This includes assessments for the consideration of Access Arrangements/reasonable adjustments in GCSE & ‘A’ Level examinations, DSA or Disabled Students Allowances in settings such as schools, universities; colleges; public service industries and much more.
Maria is also a specialist consultant & advisor for Dyslexia & Literacy difficulties and provides specialist advice, support & training for parents, students and professionals. She holds Approved Teacher Status with the British Dyslexia Association and is DBS checked, registered with the EWC, SASC & BPS and a full member of PATOSS and Member of the Dyslexia Guild (MDG).
